A cut in petrol and diesel prices has been ordered by Modi government from today onward. Fuel rates had rocketed to new highs in recent months on the back of rising global crude oil prices. Consumers can now expect at least Rs 2.50 cut in their petrol and diesel purchases now as Finance Minister Arun Jaitley had announced a cut in excise duty by Rs 1.50 on Thursday while OMCs were expected to absorb another Re 1. Therefore, a total of Rs 2.50 will be cut in both petrol and diesel prices. This would be second cut in excise duty for petrol and diesel prices. However, few other states have also decided to give relief to their consumers by reducing their VAT. Apart from crude oil prices, it was VAT and excise duty which made it very difficult for OMCs to trim the prices. However, now all two-wheeler and car holders can rejoice, as some states are now offering you petrol and diesel lower by up to Rs 5 per litre.
